SAN DIEGO -- A local San Diego leader says his family was recently hit by a drunk driver, and now he wants to share his message with the public to not get behind the wheel after you've been drinking.National statistics estimate that on New Year’s, one person will die every 39 minutes in drunk-driving crashes. A sobering statistic that hit too close to home for San Diego City Councilmember of District 7, Raul Campillo. “A few days before Christmas as me, my wife Nadia, my two-month-old son Rafael and I were driving around town in the early afternoon shopping for gifts, food, for Christmas for our families, we were struck at high speed by a driver who had been drinking. More than 100 anglers rescued from an ice chunk that broke free on a Minnesota river

RED LAKE, Minnesota (AP) — More than 100 people stranded while fishing on an ice chunk that broke free on a Minnesota river were rescued Friday, authorities said.The anglers were on an ice floe in the southeastern area of Upper Red Lake in Beltrami County — about 200 miles (322 kilometers) northwest of Minneapolis — when it broke loose from the shoreline. An emergency call shortly before 5 p.m. said the people were stranded with more than 30 feet (9 meters) separating them from shore, according to a statement by the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office.Nobody had fallen through the ice. But before first responders arrived, bystanders tried to take some of the people off by canoe and four fell into the water, the sheriff’s office said.They were brought back to the ice floe to warm in a fishing shelter, the sheriff’s office said.It took about 2 1/2 hours to finally evacuate 122 people from the ice floe, and no injuries were reported, according to the sheriff’s office.State officials have ...

Warrant issued after accused burglar failed to install GPS ankle monitor

LOUIS - A homeless man charged with burglarizing a St. Louis nursing home that closed without notice is supposed to be on a GPS ankle monitor, but he failed to get the device installed, according to records.Multiple court records reveal that St. Louis Associate Circuit Court Judge Rochelle Woodiest ordered Dawon Hicks, 44, to wear a GPS ankle monitor on Dec. 19. Records show Hicks was released as a family relative because he's homeless. Police: St. Louis woman Marquisha Williams found deceased in Illinois Northview Village Nursing Home closed earlier this month. A probable cause statement states that St. Louis police found Hicks on Dec. 18 walking out of the building with two handsaws. Police search for St. Louis domestic abuse suspect

ST. LOUIS -- The police are searching for a suspect in a domestic abuse incident. Martez Hopgood, 21, is suspected of domestic assault, kidnapping, and violation of a protection order involving an ex-girlfriend and her 10-year-old son. Police are asking anyone with information on his whereabouts to call 911.A St. Louis woman and her child, reportedly held hostage by her ex-boyfriend, sought help door to door in the middle of the night. Doorbell footage captured the moment when a good Samaritan opened the door, allowing the woman and child to escape the pursuing ex-boyfriend. The incident is under investigation. The woman sustained minor injuries, and the child was unharmed. The suspect fled before police arrived.
