Today was another hot and humid day across the area. Not only did temperatures climb to the 90s for many of us, but heat index values (what it feels like) got close to 100°! Norwood actually surpassed that this afternoon with a heat index of 101° at 4pm.So for those that high 90°, it was two in a row (sorry Lawrence, your high was 89° yesterday) and on our way to what will likely be our first heat wave of the year. If you need a reminder, an official heat wave is three consecutive 90° days. For Nashua, Fitchburg, and Norwood that will likely happen tomorrow.Tomorrow might be just a degree or two cooler than today but with the humidity in place, the takeaway is the same with feels like temperatures well into the 90s. Like today, we saw a few bubble up showers and storms. But now Facebook’s parent company is taking perhaps its biggest swipe at Twitter yet.Meta on Wednesday officially launched a new app called Threads, which is intended to offer a space for real-time conversations online, a function that has long been Twitter’s core selling point.The app received 30 million sign-ups as of Thursday morning, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said on his verified Threads account.The app appears to have many similarities to Twitter, from the layout to the product description. Truck crashes into power pole in Newton, knocking down wires

Emergency crews responded in Newton Thursday after a tractor trailer crashed into a utility pole in town. SKY7-HD was over the scene near Braeland Avenue and Langley Road shortly before 4 p.m. where the truck could be seen surrounded by tangled power lines. The pole itself was split in half. Eversource and police crews remained on scene as the truck remained stuck around 4:30 p.m. Langley Road was closed to motorists and some traffic lights in the area were without power.This is a developing story; stay with 7NEWS on-air and online for the latest updates.

OceanGate suspends operations after its Titan submersible imploded on its way to the Titanic

Contacted for additional information, a spokesperson declined to comment further. Among those killed in the implosion was Stockton Rush, the submersible’s pilot and chief executive officer of the company.Investigators believe the Titan imploded as it made its descent into deep North Atlantic waters on June 18. PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) — An ombudsman office in Haiti denounced Thursday what it called the “unacceptable slowness” of the Haitian investigation into the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse nearly two years after he was killed.The Office of Citizen Protection, an independent government agency that investigates complaints against public institutions, noted that while the case has barely budged in Haiti, U.S. authorities have arrested 11 suspects and convicted one of them already. One defendant was sentenced last month in Florida, where prosecutors have alleged there was a broad plot among conspirators in both Haiti and Florida to hire mercenaries to remove Moïse and benefit from lucrative contracts from a successor administration. WINNIPEG — A Manitoba grand chief said Wednesday she will continue to push for a landfill search for the remains of two slain women, despite being rejected by the Manitoba government.“I hope that the premier and province of Manitoba reconsider their decision,” Grand Chief Cathy Merrick of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs said Thursday.“It is a human act of compassion and justice that (the women’s) remains be returned to their families for a proper burial at their home community.”Morgan Harris and Marcedes Myran are believed to have been killed last year in Winnipeg.
